http://www.capaids-suads.org/capaidssuads/2009/02/suads-09-user-policy.html OTHER IMPORTANT SUADS 09 INFORMATION What is SUADS 09’s History? The continuing struggle to resist, survive and overcome HIV/AIDS in Africa has local heroes in Canada. Meet Danielle Howe, the remarkable originator of CAP AIDS' SUADS campaign. In August 2006, Danielle was watching the TV coverage of the 16th International AIDS Conference taking place in Toronto when the impact of HIV/AIDS in Africa touched her. Danielle was shocked to learn that 40 children died of AIDS each hour while, in South Africa, 800 people died of AIDS every day. Danielle approached CAP AIDS and, together, we launched the campaign in 2007. For more, see “Campaign History”, available here:
http://www.capaids-suads.org/capaidssuads/2009/02/learn-more-about-suads-2009.html
Why Should I Care About HIV & AIDS in Africa? a) HIV & AIDS is now the No # 1 killer in Sub-Saharan Africa b) 800 people die A DAY in Africa. That means an average high school in Canada of 1 600 kids would be empty in 2 days!
c) An estimated 11.6 million children under 18 have been orphaned as a result of AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.
“In 2007 and 2008, kids like you made a difference! In 2009, it’s your turn! It's time to SHUT UP AND DO SOMETHING!” – Danielle Howe
It always seems impossible until its done.” - Nelson Mandela
