Hi everyone!
First of all thanks for visiting this website and showing an interest in helping the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa!! I know we hear a lot about it, but we do have the ability to create change, and are making progress!
This all started in 2006- when I broke my leg and was stuck inside all summer. All I could do was watch day-time television (and we all know how great that is)! One day I stumbled across the Annual AIDS conference, which was being held in Toronto that year. I watched for the entire week, and felt compelled to do something, but like any other person, I quickly threw the guilt into the back of my mind and turned off the television.
The problem started that night when I couldn't get one statistic out of my head, "every day 800 people in South Africa die, because of HIV/AIDS". I suddenly realized that this means an average high school in Canada of 1,600 kids would be empty in 2 DAYS!!!
Then another problem hit me, how the hell am I (I was only 15 at the time) suppose to motivate people to do anything. I kept trying to push the guilt away thinking, I'll do something when I am older, or have more influence - but that didn't make me feel better.
So that's when I decided something really needs to be done, and I am going to give it a shot. I am going to motivate other high school students and give them a way to help out too!!! (because I can't be the only one who feels this way!!)
I started by making a motivational video that can be shown in schools across Canada. I later found and contacted CAPAIDS, who is a fabulous NGO and with all their support and beliefs in helping Africa, this project was a perfect match!!
-And here we are today- I just want EVERYONE to feel like they can make a difference. SUADS helps highschoolers connect with people in Africa. Just by raising one dollar we are connecting ourselves to someone's life. And by this, we can create change!!
